America’s mid-west meets Cambridge
The young people of Iowa City Orchestra, Choir and Wind Band raise the roof of West Road in a celebration of classical, traditional American, jazz and band music.
Friday 10th March
7:30 pm
Iowa City Orchestra, Choir and Wind Band is an extraordinary group of more than 100 energetic young people who play wonderful music. Their training programme has been praised as one of the best in the USA by the Grammy Foundation, the same organization that gives out the coveted gold awards to music stars each year. They have performed all over the United States as well as touring overseas.
Tonight they present a glorious mix of British and American music in different genres, ranging from Vaughan Williams, Tchaikovsky and Holst to Sousa and Craig Hella Johnson, not forgetting Wilkousky's Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Prepare to be surprised and delighted by the sheer skill and enthusiasm of these 14 to 19 year olds.
A concert for everyone – and we particularly welcome young people, their schools and families.
Among the pieces on this varied programme are:
Holst Brook Green Suite
