The Piano Music of Fauré and Prokofiev

Sunday 14th July 2019

7:30 pm

The piano masterpieces of Fauré and Prokofiev are haunting, dazzling and revelatory. This series explores these composers in the context of their time: Fauré’s refined vision infuses his piano works with an arresting emotional power. Prokofiev’s teacher Glière typifies the sophisticated romanticism that formed and provoked his prodigiously talented pupil to embrace this style in his tumultuous first sonata and reject it in his brilliant and acerbic second sonata. David Christophersen’s tour with Prokofiev’s War Sonatas was described by The Scotsman as ‘exactly right’.

Fauré – Barcarolles, nos 1&2; Impromptus nos 1-3; Nocturnes nos1&4
Glière - 12 Sketches, op 47
