Much-Loved Ballet Favourites & Tchaikovsky's Passionate 4th Symphony

This wonderful programme combines several much-loved ballet favourites with the passionate 4th Symphony from Tchaikovsky. We are delighted to welcome the Cambridge University Ballet Club to perform as the Orchestra plays excerpts from these delightful pieces:

Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet
Delibes Coppelia
Khachaturian Spartacus
Tchaikovsky Sleeping Beauty

After the interval the Orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky impassioned Symphony No. 4 which was written during a time of emotional turbulence for the composer. The piece veers from fateful fanfares to poignant melancholy before hurtling through a whirlwind finale. The British premiere was conducted by the composer himself when he was visiting Cambridge in June 1893 to receive an honorary doctorate. The hall was filled to capacity and the symphony received great applause after every movement.

Conductor: Benedict Collins-Rice

Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet
Delibes: Coppelia
Khachaturian: Spartacus
Tchaikovsky: Sleeping Beauty
Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4
