Cambridge Graduate Orchestra

Bruckner Symphony No 4

Friday 2nd December

8:00 pm

In Germany, they call Bruckner's fourth the ‘Romantic’ symphony, and it’s easy to hear why. Peter Britton directs the Cambridge Graduate Orchestra in an evening of dramatic and passionate music. The concert opens with the walk to the paradise garden, a movement from Delius's fourth opera 'A Village Romeo and Juliet'. Soprano Anna Marmion, a Scholar at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, joins the ensemble for Strauss Six Bretano-Lieder, songs which are settings of poems by Clemens Brentano. The concert concludes with Bruckner's fourth symphony, a work that evokes teutonic romanticism in its allusions to the hunt and, by extension, its spotlighting of instruments most associated with that pursuit, the horns.
