Haydn – Life on the Moon

Wednesday 22nd October 2014

7:30 pm

Cal McCrystal, the comedy director behind the National Theatre’s smash hit One Man, Two Guvnors, directs this new production of Life on the Moon (Il mondo della luna), one of the most popular of Haydn’s many operas.

The opera is a fast-moving treatment of a classic play by Carlo Goldoni. To trick an old scrooge, his daughter and her suitor convince him that he has flown to the moon - a topsy-turvy world in their control. The score includes some of Haydn’s finest vocal writing, including two wonderful, spirited, extended finales which anticipate the music of Mozart and Beethoven.
