Leonid Gorokhov comes to Cambridge

International cellist to play Dvorak Cello Concerto with EAChO

Saturday 21st January

7:30 pm

The East Anglia Chamber Orchestra is delighted to return to the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge and the Apex in Bury St Edmunds with another attractive and demanding programme. Under the baton of Jacques Cohen, the concert will begin with the Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila - Glinka’s ebullient and tuneful masterpiece.

Our soloist for the magnificent Dvorak Cello Concerto in B minor is Leonid Gorokhov. The European Association for the Encouragement of the Arts awarded the Cultural Achievement Prize to Leonid Gorokhov for “exceptional talent and outstanding artistic accomplishment”.

Although Dvorak was sceptical about writing a cello concerto, he has given us one of the best and most popular concerto’s in the repertoire. Brahms, his friend and benefactor, wrote, “Why in the world didn’t I know one could write a cello concerto like this? If I’d known I would have done it years ago!”

Brahms composed his Third Symphony in the summer of 1883, at the height of his powers. Written in Weisbaden, surrounded by natural beauty, the symphony’s themes inspire and lift our spirits. Clara Schumann wrote, “from start to finish one is wrapped about with the mysterious charm of the woods and forests…”

Join us for a wonderful evening of exciting and inspiring music-making.
