‘Chamber music royalty’ BACHTRACK

‘One of the world’s greatest string quartets’ (New York Times) returns to Cambridge Music Festival with a programme that captures the emotional intensity of the greatest chamber music.

The lively ‘debate’ between players in Haydn’s Op.20 established him as the ‘father’ of the quartet form, while at the heart of Beethoven’s Op.132 lies an extended prayer, written in thanksgiving for surviving a near-fatal illness.

By contrast are the folk-infused sounds of Janáček’s Czech homeland. Mysterious melodies, propulsive rhythms and a plaintive lullaby form this passionate tribute to his muse, Kamila Stösslová.
