Toby Purser returns to conduct EAChO

Saturday 25th April

7:30 pm

EAChO returns to the West Road Concert Hall for an evening of heart-warming music making under the baton of Toby Purser. The concert begins with the interesting and delightful Cantus Arcticus by Rautavaara that includes the recorded calls of Arctic birds from Northern Finland.

The orchestra is then joined by the extremely talented Sasha Grynyuk for the ever popular Piano Concerto no.5 by Ludwig van Beethoven. Written when Vienna was under siege by Napoleonic forces and Beethoven was suffering from the noise and misery, it is ironic that this sublime masterpiece is known as the “Emperor”. Ukrainian born Sasha Grynyuk has won
more than ten international competitions and was described by the legendary Charles Rosen as “an impressive artist with remarkable, unfailing musicality always moving with the most natural, electrifying and satisfying interpretations”.

Our concert concludes with the Seventh Symphony by Sibelius. Completed by the Finnish composer in 1924, it is a one movement symphony that is entirely organic in form
and is his most remarkable compositional achievement.

Join us for an evening of drama, emotion and fabulous music-making.
