Young Composers Concert

Phaedra Ensemble

Sunday 29th October

5:00 pm

Discover the amazing talent of young composers at this annual concert showcasing the winning entries in the Cambridge Young Composer of the Year Competition. For the first time the concert will also include winning pieces from the newly launched Snape Young Composer competition, as part of a project to extend opportunities for young composers across East Anglia.

The compositions will be performed by members of the Phaedra Ensemble. They have all been written by children aged 17 and under who were invited to compose a piece of music up to five minutes long, inspired by the Festival of Ideas theme of 'Truth'. Entries must be composed for two or more instruments selected from a piano trio (piano, violin, cello).

The Cambridge Young Composer of the Year competition is organised by the charity Cambridge Youth Music, with support from Cambridge Music Education Outreach. This year it has been extended to include children in Hertfordshire as well as Cambridgeshire.

The new Snape Young Composer competition has been organised by Aldeburgh Young Musicians at Snape Maltings and is open to children from Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

The Concert will also include a specially commissioned work by last year's Cambridge Young Composer of the Year, Alexia Sloane.
