more about Cambridge Graduate Orchestra

The Cambridge Graduate Orchestra (CGO) welcomes graduates, postgraduates, fellows, mature students and other interested instrumentalists from within the university and city. CGO has enjoyed a diverse repertoire history, from performing famous symphonies such as the Beethoven’s 3rd “Eroica” Symphony, accompanying soloists in performances of works such as Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto, to collaborations with the Cambridge University Ballet Club and the Morley Choral Society. Rehearsals occur throughout the academic year. Interested players are always encouraged to apply for membership, particularly those in the strings and brass.

The orchestra was founded in 2004 by Alex Reid in order to bring together graduate musicians dispersed across the university and town and provide a sociable environment in which to rehearse and meet other like-minded musicians. The orchestra gave its first concert with Peter Tregear conducting in March 2005.
