Academy of Ancient Music
Charpentier’s Actéon and Rameau’s Pygmalion: two mythological mini-masterpieces of baroque opera, in an exuberant concert performance.
Wednesday 9 October
Solomon's Knot, Cambridge Early Music
Solomon’s Knot gave an unforgettable performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion in Trinity College Chapel last year, so expectations are high for their return to CEM with Monteverdi’s masterpiece. The Vespers combines the exalted and the sensual in a dizzying array of soaring choruses, intricate duets and solos, and instrumental writing so fresh-sounding it could have been composed yesterday.
Saturday 12 October
City of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra
Two late Romantic masterpieces, and a beautiful work from a composer whose life was sadly brief.
