more about Cambridge Gamelan Society

The Cambridge Gamelan Society is an ensemble dedicated to the performance of traditional and contemporary Javanese gamelan music.

We meet on Thursday evenings in the Cudworth Room, Faculty of Music, West Road.

No previous musical experience is required, with a dedicated beginners group meeting at the beginning of the session to help develop your skills.. To join and for more information please contact Rob Campion (rc850).

In 2025-26 the group is looking forward to performing in the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, and a concert in West Road Concert Hall.

2024-25 highlights included a workshop for a local Cambridge secondary school, a Gamelan family afternoon at Pembroke Auditorium, followed by an evening performance. In 2023-24, the group performed a shadow puppet theatre performance with a master gamelan musician from East Java.
